    Hello,
I just moved here to the states, abaout 8 weeks ago and i am still using my old Nokia N 73. But i would like to get a new phone soon, with internet acess... i like the Iphone, but probably, would like to get some cheaper dataflatrate... since ATT seems for me to be to expensive...
Now i thought about getting the Nokia 5800... seems to be a good fit for me and the money it costs...

Right now i use a go card from ATT. I am hapy with the service, but like i said data rate seems to be bit expensive...

I always in germany purchased phone for cheap since i always made a 2 year contract. I cannot find a provider whichseems to be able to offer a contract combined with a Nokia 5800 for a good price (+ good reception here in Viginia and a fair data rate)....

I also get confused with the use / not use of simcards.... For example i still have a N73... can i ONLY use this with carriers which use simcards??? My wife got US Celluar... and she has a phone witout simcard... so i could NOT use US Cellular? OR could I? This would be similar to a new phone like the N 5800 , or??

Can anybody et me some info on this topic...
    It is very appreciated...

    Alex

Well, it sounds like you have the basics down.
Here in the States, we have 2 different cellular carriers, SIM based (AT&T, T-Mobile), and CDMA (US Cellular, Sprint, Verizon).

You are correct in saying that you can't use your phone with US Cellular. And you can't use a US Cellular with a SIM Based, such as AT&T.
    Read this:
    GSM or CDMA?

Hopefully that will help answer your questions.

    Re: Nokia 5800 with contract.

thank you for the help so far !! I read the other post...

Does any phone with GSM have CDMA counterpart?? For example is there a Nokia N95 for CDMA and one for GSM?
For example I like the Nokia 5800, but i
    a) cannot find a carrier, that offers a package deal with a contract, not even att...
    b) does that mean i would have to buy the phone for regular price?
    c) get a contract with ATT or t-mobile, with another phone what i will ot use??
because if i get a contract they will give me a phone with it? what do i do with that phone ? sell?
because they won't give me a lower rate with i just want the contract? or?

This is quite confusing for me....!

Thank you anybody who is willing to help!!!!!
