Using WIFI and cell phone data?

If I want to use my wifi instead of cell data, is this the correct setting?

Defining Internet Connections:

On the Start screen, swipe left

Tap "Settings"

Go to "Wi-Fi"

Make sure that "Wi-Fi networking" is enabled
Select the connection that you wish to use

To use a mobile data connection:

On the Start screen, swipe left and go to "Settings"
Tap "cellular"
Switch "Data connection" to "On"


I believe I read that if I enable both mobile data and wifi, the phone (1020) will automatically use wifi when available minimizing the data charges. So I would probably want to keep mobile data and wifi on all the time, is this correct?

Anyhow, back to the matter at hand:

With those settings, yes, your phone will use Wi-Fi when in range of a connected Wi-Fi network, and it will automatically switch to cellular data when not in range of a Wi-Fi network.

However, you can set these options however you want. My advice is to:

- Disable Wi-Fi when not in use (when you are away and don't have access to Wi-Fi networks) in order to conserve battery life
- When in range of a Wi-Fi network, always use Wi-Fi connectivity. It's faster, it's free.
- If you do not wish to use data connectivity under any circumstances, then keep "Data connection" under "cellular" disabled and use only Wi-Fi whenever you are in range of a network.

HI tavenger5, I'm seriously considering the new Nokia 1020. I was also looking at the galaxy s4, and possibly an iphone. What's really drawing me to the nokia is that my Wife has always had them, and a co-worker has the 920 and they all seem to be built like tanks. Unlike the galaxy which seems cheaply made in comparison.

Not sure about the window's phone interface, I'm more of a Mac guy myself, but I guess I'd have to compromise.
