Please don't laugh (well, at least not too hard...)

I have a Nokia 6650d 'flip phone'. My question is: Is there any quick way to disable and enable voice mail? There are times when I'd like for it to be functional, but it would really be nice to have it 'turned off' most of the time.

    Thanks in advance

What service do you have on the phone? And by disabled you mean a missed call doesn't go to VM?

Re: Voice mail question on an old Nokia model

    Hi tavenger5

    Thanks for the reply!

I have AT&T's 'Go Phone' service, which is a pay-as-you-go plan. And yes, what I'd like is to be able to stop missed calls from going to VM. I'd be fine with them showing up on the 'missed call' list. I was hoping that there was something in the phone's menus that would let me switch it back and forth without involving AT&T.

The problem is two-fold: (1) I don't always carry my cell phone, nor do I check it that often for messages or missed calls. I use my land-line and VOIP phones for almost all my communications - I have the cell phone for emergencies and travel. (2) I'm a cheap-skate. The AT&T plan deducts $1 for each day the phone is used, plus I get charged a per-minute fee for accessing my VM. When I leave messages for people to return my calls, I ALWAYS leave the land-line number, but if they have my cell number, they invariably call that - and then are often upset when I don't get back to them for a couple of days.

    Thanks again for your input!!

Re: Voice mail question on an old Nokia model

Since I couldn't figure it out myself and could find nothing on the web, I decided to call AT&T.

They told me that VM can only be turned off and on by their service techs or a qualified tech at an AT&T store.

    So much for that!

Thanks to all who read my posts - at least we have an answer!

    Best regards,

    Dave B.
