Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- For more options go to Settings
- Then access Display
- Optionally, turn Adaptive brightness ON or OFF
- For timeout duration tap Sleep and select a lower value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can turn the phones connectivity features OFF when not actively in use such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS in order to avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to turn the features off
- For additional options go to Settings
- Access Location for GPS settings and tap Mode
- Select Battery saving
- To disable hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless 7 Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and turn the feature OFF
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve the battery until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Go to Mobile networks
- Tap Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Reduce Sync:
NOTE: you can change your accounts settings to reduce sync and thus improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and go to Accounts
- Select an account type
- Tap the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync as desired
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes and this can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third-party apps from the phone, you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Go to Apps
- Ensure All apps is selected from the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application
- To turn the app off, tap Disable / Force Stop
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Up to Date:
NOTE: OS updates include battery life improvements and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to install the update (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
