We all know that Samsung's Galaxy S4 is all set to hit the market this month. While AT&T is launching the phone on April 30th 2013, Sprint plans to launch it on April 27th 2013 and T-Mobile plans to launch it on April 24th 2013. So, while we are all waiting for this phone to hit stores, let’s take a closer look at what’s new in the Galaxy S4 by comparing it with its predecessor the Galaxy S3.

Here are the specification differences between the Samsung Galaxy S III and the new S4.

    1. Size and weight - One point worth mentioning here is that Samsung has finally managed to reduce the size and weight of its flagship phone and in the process, make it easier to hold. The Galaxy S4 has a width of 2.75 inches which is 0.03 inches lesser than the SIII. It's also thinner than the SIII at 0.31 inches. No change in the length of the phone though. Another interesting fact is that the S4 is 0.10 oz lighter than its predecessor.
    2. Display - This is probably one of the greatest differences between both the phones. While both phones have a Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen with 16M colors, the S4 has a pixel density of 441 ppi as compared to the 306 ppi of the SIII. The S4 also has a 5 inch touch screen with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. So you see the display on the phone has gotten significantly better.
    3. Memory & Storage - In terms of memory and storage there isn't any difference between both the phones. They both run on 2 GB of RAM (1GB of RAM in the international SIII) and are available in 16, 32 and 64 GB versions (64GB version will probably not be seen in the US). Nothing much to say here.
    4. Camera - The Galaxy S4 is really leaps and bounds ahead as far as the camera is concerned. It comes with an astonishing 13 MP camera that can take shots with an amazing 4128 x 3096 pixel resolution. It also has a nice little addition called dual shot. The phone also comes with HDR (High Dynamic Range) and dual video calls which, anyone would agree, are nice features to have on your Smartphone.
    5. OS & Performance - Well, both phones run on the Android operating system (no surprises there). But, the Galaxy S4 is being released simultaneously with the latest version of Android Jelly Bean (v4.2.2). The Galaxy SIII is only upgradeable up to Jelly Bean (v4.1.2). And as time goes by, the chances of an upgrade coming out for the SIII keep reducing. Basically, what Samsung is trying to say is that your best bet at trying out the latest Jelly Bean OS is to buy the Galaxy S4. In terms of performance, the Galaxy S4 is supposed to be a lot better than the SIII mainly because it has an 8 or 4 core processor instead of the 4 or 2 core one on the SIII. That's right, the Galaxy S4 comes with a 1.6 GHz Oct-core Cortex-A15 CPU as well as a 1.2 GHz Quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU. This means you can look forward to running a lot of your favorite apps simultaneously with little or no trouble. It's really something worth looking forward to.
    6. Battery - This is the final piece of the puzzle. Samsung phones have always been known for their long battery life. And they are doing nothing to hurt their chances with the 2600 mAh Li-ion battery on the Galaxy S4. We all know that Samsung does really well in this category but we will only be able to confirm the S4's battery performance once the phone is released and we get a chance to use it.

    Conclusion

Well, the Galaxy S4 does seem like a huge improvement over the Galaxy SIII but considering the fact that it is one of the most awaited Smartphone’s of 2013 it seems Samsung could have done a little more with the phone. Maybe they should have waited a few months more and worked on the phone a little bit more. But don't let our opinion mislead you, on release, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will definitely be one of the best Smartphone’s in the market and added 4G (LTE) support only further strengthens the phone’s popularity.

GS4 is a huge upgrade from GS3, and it's also very expensive. I wonder though if these new features will really be utilized because they're all so overwhelming. I'm curious what other improvements Samsung have in mind on the next models. Smartphones are taking over computers now.

The Galaxy S4 looks extremely similar to the Galaxy SIII in design. Put simply, it's just a bigger version. It keeps the rounded corners but has a slightly squarer look to it like the Galaxy S2. The rear removable cover also remains, as does the physical home button which is a slightly different shape.

Yeah, I think I like the squarish shape now. They also balanced the space on the home button. My friends didn't like that there is so much space above the home button, and it's not "centered." The S4 kind of looks like the Note II now from the photos. I heard the US version will only have 4 cores though and the international version has 8 cores? Is that true?

Sorry I'm just seeing this now lol I did try the S4 but decided I liked my SIII better and am still using it. The S4 to me was imo basically the same just a little bigger and imo performance and battery is the same on both.
