- Introduction
There is absolutely no doubt that everyone has been waiting to get their hands on the first real smart phone of 2013, the Samsung Galaxy S4. But now that its finally out, how does it stand up against some of the best phones of 2012? Lets get started by comparing it with a phone from a company that once ruled the cell phone market, the Nokia Lumia 920.
Specifications
1. Size and weight - Well, in terms of size and weight, it seems Samsung has caught on to a little bit of what Apple has been bragging about for all these years. The Galaxy S4 weighs just 130g and measures an astounding 136.6x69.8x7.9mm. This means that the phone is longer (to incorporate the 5 inch screen of course) and thinner at the same time. Samsung clearly wins against Nokia in this round since the Lumia 920 weighs in at 185g and measures a beastly 130.3x70.8x10.7mm. A lot more work to do on the portability factor Nokia.
2. Display - Keep in mind here that the Galaxy S4 is one of the latest phones from Samsung and the Lumia 920 was released primarily to compete with the Galaxy SIII. All that apart, the Galaxy S4 has a beautiful 5 inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1920x1080 which has a remarkable 441 ppi. This makes Nokias 4.5 inch IPS LCD screen look second class. We however do have reason to believe that Nokias screen produces a much better image than the Galaxy S4 whose super AMOLED screen does nothing more than complement your battery life. We feel Nokia should win this round.
3. Memory & Storage - In terms of memory and storage again Samsung appears to be leaps and bounds ahead. While the Galaxy S4 offers you three separate versions (16/32/64 GB) with an option to expand memory by another 64 GB, the Lumia 920 just has one standard 32 GB model with no additional storage. The memory on the Galaxy S4 is also double that of the Lumia 920 at 2 GB although we havent been able to notice much of a difference in both the phones processing due to this. So, unless you want to have 128 GB of storage space on your phone, you cant really award this point to either of them. We say its a tie.
4. Camera - Again Samsung has really aimed to please with their 13 MP primary camera and 2 MP front camera. But really, the picture quality is not even close to that of the 8.7 MP Carl Zeiss lens primary camera on the Lumia 920. Plus, the added features like optical image stabilization give Nokia the upper hand here.
5. OS & Performance - This is basically where Samsung takes home the prize. The Galaxy S4 has a Exynos 5, octa-core chip and an 8-core, 1600 MHz, (1.6 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 and 1.2 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7) processor. This hardware is just miles ahead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 plus MSM8960 chip on the Lumia 920 as well as the Dual Core, 1500 MHz, Krait processor. There really is no doubt here, Samsung takes the point, hands down.
6. Battery - The battery is something that Samsung have always managed to leave a mark with. Their cell phones are known for their exceptional battery life. While the Lumia 920 offers up to 17 hours of talk time on 2G networks with its 2000 mAh battery, we are almost certain that the 2600 mAh battery in the Galaxy S4 will provide a much better battery life. We havent been able to check the battery life of the phone yet so expect an update on this one soon.
Conclusion
So, the scoreboard reads 2-2. While Samsung is a clear winner in the Size and OS categories, Nokia has managed to earn some respect because of its display and camera. The memory and storage is indeed a tie for all practical purposes and if we turn to the battery to determine a winner, there are more than a few people who will already know that Samsung is going to win this one. Lets not forget that the Lumia 920 is a phone meant for 2012 and hopefully Nokia will be able to come out with something better soon this year. As for now, it seems the Galaxy S4 is comfortably perched on the top of the pile. Which upcoming phone do you think will be able to steal the crown from the Galaxy S4?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Nokia Lumia 920. Which is better?
I vote for Samsung Galaxy S4. To me, there are only 2 OS that I would even consider using, iOS and Android. It's just a personal preference. Plus I have unlimited access to all the apps there is in the market. To me, the main reason of getting a smart phone is productivity, and I can't be productive enough if I can't have all the apps I need for work and personal use too. Nokia is a really good brand, but I'd still go with Samsung S4. I think the Note III will be a super power phone, better than any other.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Nokia Lumia 920. Which is better?
Hey guys,
Just wanted to add that the release of the Galaxy S4 has been delayed in the U.S. Check our homepage for details. Also, a few modifications were made to the processor and memory in the phone.
Now, it only comes with 16 GB of inbuilt memory and runs on just a Quad-core, 1900 MHz, Krait 300 processor.
Samsung claims that this doesn't hurt the functionality of the phone in any way but we will only know for sure once we get a hold of the phone.
Keep posted for updates.
