How-to: Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Clear the Cache and Boot in Safe Mode

Clearing the Cache Partition:

Assuming that your phone does not work correctly but you don't wish to lose personal data by master resetting it, you can try to wipe the cache partition. To do so:

1. Turn off your smartphone
2. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" buttons at the same time
3. Once the "Galaxy Note 3" logo appears on the screen, release the "Power" button but continue to hold the "Volume Up" and "Home" keys pressed
4. After the "Android System Recovery" screen appears, release the "Volume Up" and "Home" buttons
5. Press the "Volume Down" button to highlight "Wipe cache partition"
6. Press the "Power" button to select the highlighted option
7. Highlight "reboot system now", then press "Power" to restart the smartphone

Safe Mode

Safe mode allows you to turn on your smartphone with all the third-party applications disabled. In case you have installed an application that now prevents you from starting your smartphone, then you can boot in safe mode and uninstall the problematic app.

Booting up in Safe Mode:

1. With the device turned off, press and hold the "Power" button
2. Once the "Galaxy Note 3" logo appears, release the "Power" button and then immediately press and hold the "Volume down" button
3. Continue to hold the "Volume down" button until the device finishes restarting
4. Once the handset boots up, the text "Safe mode" should be displayed at the bottom-left corner of the screen. You can now release the "Volume down" button
5. To uninstall an app, press the "Menu" button while viewing the home screen
6. Tap "Settings"
7. Go to the "General" tab
8. Tap "Application manager" and go to the "Downloaded" screen
9. Select the desired application, tap "Uninstall" > "OK"

Disabling Safe Mode:

1. Press and hold the "Power" button
2. Tap "Restart" and allow your device to boot up normally
