Enabling and Customizing Battery Saving Mode:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings" and tap the "My device" tab
  3. Press the switch associated with "Power saving mode" and set it to "ON"
  4. Tap "Power saving mode"
  5. To edit the way battery saving works, mark or clear the check boxes associated with "CPU power saving", "Screen power saving" and / or "Turn off haptic feedback"

Lowering the Screen Brightness and the Timeout Duration:

  1. While on the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "My device" tab
  3. Tap "Display" > "Brightness"
  4. Make sure the "Automatic brightness" feature is disabled
  5. Drag the brightness slider to a lower level
  6. Tap "OK" > "Screen timeout"
  7. Select a lower value, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot:

  1. Press "Menu" while viewing a home screen and tap "Settings"
  2. Tap the "Connections" tab
  3. Touch "More networks" > "Tethering & Mobile HotSpot"
  4. Press the switch associated with "Mobile HotSpot" and set it to "OFF"
  5. Go back to the home screen and drag the "Status" bar down
  6. Tap and switches associated with "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "GPS" and disable these features

Changing the Sync Settings for Applications:

  1. Press "Menu" while viewing a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" > "Accounts"
  3. Under "My accounts", select a desired account type (like Google)
  4. Adjust the available sync settings for the account type. Most account types allow you to mark / unmark check boxes to disable various sync categories. You can also tap an option to keep syncing enabled, but increase the time interval for syncing
  5. Press your "email address" or "user name" located at the top of the screen, in order to adjust more sync options
  6. You can mark / clear check boxes for each applicable category, or you can tap a category to change the sync time interval

Disabling Background Data:

  1. From the home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings" and open the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "Data usage"
  4. Press the "Menu" button and tap "Restrict background data"

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Applications:

  1. While viewing the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Go to "Settings" > "More" > "Application manager"
  3. Swipe the screen in order to access the "Downloaded" screen
  4. Select an application and tap "Disable" or "Uninstall"
  5. Press "OK" to confirm

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  4. To switch to 2G only, tap "GSM only"
  5. To switch back to 4G, tap "LTE / GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)" or "GSM / WCMA (auto connect)"

Switching from a Live Wallpaper:

Live wallpapers can hit battery life pretty hard, so if you wish to conserve the battery, it's better if you use a static wallpaper (image)

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Set wallpaper" and select "Home screen"
  3. Choose "Wallpaper" or "Gallery"
  4. Browse through the desired images. Select one and tap "Set wallpaper". If you're picking an image from the gallery, you'll need to resize / crop / drag it and then tap "Done"

Updating to the Most Recent Software Version:

NOTE: this trick works only if there's a new software update available for your phone, which addresses potential battery life issues

  1. Press "Menu" while viewing any home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and press the "More" tab
  3. Tap "About device" > "Software update"
  4. In case there's a new software update available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it
