Back Up Applications:
- While on the home screen, press the "Menu" button
- Tap "Settings" and go to the "Accounts" tab
- Tap "Backup and reset". NOTE: in order to back up your apps you need to be logged in to a Google account. If you need to add one, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow any self-explanatory steps
- If necessary, mark the check boxes associated with "Backup my data" and "Backup account"
Backing Up Contacts to a Samsung or Google Account:
- Tap the "Contacts" icon located on the home screen
- Press the "Menu" button
- Tap "Merge contacts"
- Select either "Merge with Google" or "Merge with Samsung"
- If necessary, sign in with your Google or Samsung account
Backing Up Contacts to Your SD Card:
- Open the "Contacts" application
- Press the "Menu" button and tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Press "Menu" again and tap "Import / Export" > "Export to SD card"
- If required, enter a name for the backup file (or record the name) and tap "OK"
Backing Up Media Files on Your SD Card:
- Tap the "All Apps" icon from the home screen
- Tap "My Files" > "All files"
- Select "Device storage". NOTE: if you want to back up all the files, press "Menu" > "Select all" and skip to step 6
- Navigate to where the desired media files are located. NOTE: pictures captured with the camera app are located in the "DCIM" folder. Other media files can be found in "Notifications", "Downloads" etc.
- Mark the check box associated with the files / folders that you want to back up
- Press the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right corner
- Select "Copy". Alternatively, tap "Move" if you don't want to create duplicates
- Tap "SD memory card" and navigate to the desired backup folder
- Tap "Paste here" or "Move here" depending on your initial selection
Backing Up Media Files on Your Windows Computer:
- Use the USB cable to connect your smartphone to your PC
- Drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device"
- In the Auto-Run window on your computer, choose to browse the device's files / folders. Otherwise, navigate to where the media files are stored on your smartphone's storage
- Copy the files that you want to back up, and navigate to where you want to save them on your PC
- Paste the files in the desired location and once the transfer is complete, safely disconnect your handset from your computer
Backing Up Media Files on Your Mac Computer:
- If necessary, use your Mac's Internet browser to visit SAMSUNG KIES and click "Download for Mac OS", then install Kies
- Establish a connection between your phone and computer via USB
- Drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device". Then, mark the "Media device" check box
- On your Mac, open "Kies"
- In Kies, click the "Back up / Restore" tab, then go to "Backup"
- Mark the check boxes associated with "Music", "Photo" or any other items that you want to save. Alternatively, click "Select all items"
- Click "Backup"
- Once the process is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone from your computer
