How-to: Samsung Galaxy Note 3: Master Reset

Master Reset

WARNING! Master resetting your smartphone will result in loss of personal data stored on the handset's internal storage, including downloaded content, ringtones, apps, contacts and apps. NOTE: data stored on the SIM and SD cards are not going to be deleted.

Master Resetting your Smartphone via the Settings Menu:

1. If necessary, back up your data. (Click this link if you need to learn how to perform a backup)
2. While on the home screen, press the "Menu" button
3. Select "Settings"
4. Go to the "General" tab
5. Tap "Back up and reset"
6. Tap "Factory data reset" and then tap "Reset device"
7. If prompted, enter your PIN or password and then tap "Continue"
8. Tap "Delete all"

Master Resetting Using Hardware Keys:

In case your smartphone is freezing up during the booting process and you can't reset it through the settings menu, then you can do so using the hardware keys.

1. Back up the data if necessary. (Click this link to learn how)
2. Turn off your smartphone
3. Press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" buttons at the same time
4. Once the "Galaxy Note 3" message appears on the screen, release the "Power" key but continue to keep the other two buttons pressed
5. Once the "Android System Recovery" screen pops-up, release the "Volume up" and "Home" buttons
6. Press the "Volume down" button to highlight the "wipe data / factory reset" option
7. Press the "Power" button to confirm your selection
8. Navigate to "delete all user data" by using the "Volume down" button
9. Press the "Power" button to select and start the master reset
10. Once the resetting process is complete, highlight "Reboot system now" and press the "Power" button to restart your device
