Backing Up Applications:

  1. Press the "Menu" button while on a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "Accounts" tab
  3. Tap "Backup and reset". NOTE: In order to back up your apps, you need to be logged in to a Google account
  4. Tap "Backup account" > "Add account" if you need to create a Google account, and follow the on-screen prompts
  5. If necessary, mark the "Backup my data" and "Backup account" check boxes

Backing Up Contacts to a Samsung or Google Account:

  1. Tap the "Contacts" icon located on the home screen
  2. Press the "Menu" button and tap "Merge accounts"
  3. Select either "Merge with Google" or "Merge with Samsung"
  4. If necessary, sign in with your Samsung or Google account

Backing up Contacts to the SD Card:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Contacts"
  2. Press the "Menu" key and tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
  3. Press the "Menu" button and select "Import / Export"
  4. Tap "Export to SD card". A pop-up will display the name of the backup file. Record it if necessary
  5. Tap "OK"

Backing Up Pictures and Media Files on the SD Card:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
  2. Tap "My Files" > "All files"
  3. Go to "Device storage". NOTE: to back up all of your personal files, press "Menu", tap "Select all" and skip to step 6
  4. Navigate to where the desired media files are located. Pictures captured with the camera are found in the "DCIM" folder. Other media files are usually located in the "Notifications", "Ringtones", "Download" folders etc.
  5. Mark the check box associated with the files and / or folders that you want to back up
  6. Press the "Menu" icon located in the upper-right corner
  7. Tap "Copy" or, to avoid duplicates, tap "Move"
  8. Select "SD memory card" and navigate to the desired folder
  9. Tap "Paste here" or "Move here"

Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Use the USB cable to establish a connection between your smartphone and computer
  2. On the smartphone, drag the "notification" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device", and mark the "Media device" check box
  3. An AutoPlay window should appear on your PC. Select "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
  4. Locate the files that you wish to back up, and copy them
  5. Navigate to where you want to back up your files on your computer, and paste the files
  6. Once finished, safely disconnect your smartphone from your PC

Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:

NOTE: Skip the first step if you already have Kies installed on your Mac.

  1. On your Mac, navigate to SAMSUNG KIES and click "Download for Mac OS". Follow the on-screen steps to install Kies on your computer
  2. Connect your Galaxy Light to your PC via USB
  3. Drag the "status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
  4. Mark the check box next to "Media device"
  5. Open Kies and click the "Back up / restore" tab
  6. Click the "Backup" tab
  7. Mark the check box next to "Music", "Photo" or any other types of files that you want to back up. You can also click "Select all items"
  8. Click "Backup". Once the process is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone
