WARNING! Applying a master reset will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the phone's internal memory. This includes ringtones, images, third party applications, contacts and downloaded content. Content stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.

Master Resetting Using the Settings Menu:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap the "Apps" icon
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "User and Backup", tap "Backup and reset"
  4. Optionally, clear the check boxes associated with "Automatic restore" and "Back up my data"
  5. Tap "Factory data reset" > "Reset device"
  6. Assuming that your smartphone is protected by a screen lock, you'll need to provide the password or PIN and tap "Continue"
  7. Tap "Delete all" to confirm

Master Resetting Using Hardware Keys (Recovery Menu):

NOTE: use this method of factory reset if your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from applying a master reset using the settings menu.

  1. With the smartphone turned off, press and hold the "Volume Up", "Home" and "Power" button simultaneously
  2. After the device vibrates, release the "Power" key but continue pressing "Home" and "Volume Up"
  3. When the "Android System Recovery" screen appears, release all hardware buttons
  4. From the recovery menu, press the "Volume down" key to navigate to and highlight "wipe data / factory reset"
  5. Press "Power" to confirm the selection
  6. Press "Volume down" until you highlight "Yes -- delete all user data", and then press "Power"
  7. Once the master reset has been applied, the "Reboot system now" option will be highlighted
  8. Press the "Power" key to restart your smartphone in normal mode
