Backing Up Applications:
- While viewing the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Tap "Settings"
- Under "User and Backup" tap "Backup and reset"
- Sign in with your Google account. To add an account, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen prompts
- If necessary, mark the check boxes next to "Backup my data" and "Backup account"
Contact Backup
Backing Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:
- Tap the "Contacts" icon located on the home screen
- Tap the "Settings" icon
- Select "Merge accounts"
- Select either "Google" or "Samsung account"
- Tap "OK" and the contacts will be merged with your selected account
Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:
- Make sure the SD card is installed on your phone
- Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Under "Applications", tap "Contacts"
- Tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export" > "Export to SD Card"
- Record the backup file's name for future use and tap "OK" to confirm
Media File Backup
Backing Up Media Files Using the Device's Storage:
- Ensure that the SD card is installed on your phone
- Open the apps drawer
- Tap "My Files"
- Scroll to "Local Storage" and tap "Device storage"
- Tap the "Menu" icon
- From the drop-down menu, tap "Select"
- Navigate to the files / folders containing the media files. (NOTE: pictures captured with the "Camera" app are found in the "DCIM" folder", audio files are in "Notifications" etc.)
- Mark the check box associated with the desired file or folder
- Tap the "Menu" icon
- Select "Copy" > "SD card"
- Navigate to where you wish to copy the files
- Tap "Paste here"
Backing Up Media Files using a Windows Computer:
- Connect your Galaxy S5 Active to your PC using the USB cable
- Swipe the "Status" bar down
- Tap "Connected as a media device" and mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
- From the AutoPlay window on the computer, click "Open device to view files"
- Open the "Card" or "Phone" drive and locate your media files stored on the smartphone
- Copy the files and paste them in the desired location on your computer's HDD
Backing Up Media Files using a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 2 steps if you already have Samsung Kies installed on your Mac
- Open the Internet browser on your Mac and navigate to Kies
- Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen prompts to install the software
- Use the USB cable to connect the Galaxy S5 Active to the computer
- Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
- Mark the "Media device" check box"
- On the Mac, launch Kies
- From Kies, go to the "Back up / Restore" tab
- Access the "Backup" tab
- Mark the check box next to "Music" and "Photo"
- If you want to back up all the files, mark the "Select all items" check box
- Click "Backup"
- Once the process is complete, safely disconnect your smartphone from the Mac
