Backing Up Your Apps:
- From any of the home screens, tap the "Apps" icon
- Tap "Settings" and scroll to "User and Backup"
- Ta p "Backup and reset", and sign in with your Google account.
- In case you have to add an account, tap "Backup account" > "Add account"
- If necessary, mark the check boxes next to "Backup my data" and "Backup account"
Contact Backup
Backing Up Contacts Using a Google or Samsung Account:
- Tap the "Contacts" icon while on the home screen
- Tap "Settings" > "Merge accounts"
- Choose "Google" or "Samsung account"
- To merge the contacts with the selected account, tap "OK"
Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:
- Make sure that the SD card is installed on your smartphone
- Tap "Apps" > "Settings"
- Scroll to "Applications"
- Tap "Contacts" > "Contacts to display"
- Tap "All contacts"
- Touch "Import / Export" and then select "Export to SD card"
- Make sure you remember the backup file's name before tapping "OK"
Media File Backup
Backing Up Media Files on the Phone's Storage:
- Ensure the SD card is installed on your SGS5 Mini
- Launch the apps drawer
- Tap "My Files"
- Scroll to "Local storage" and tap "Device storage"
- Press "Menu" and tap "Select"
- Navigate to the desired files and folders containing the media files. NOTE: photos captured with the phone's camera are found in the "DCIM" folder. Other types of files can be found in "Ringtones" and "Downloads" etc.
- Mark the check boxes associated with the files or folders that you wish to back up
- Tap "Menu" > "Copy" and select "SD card"
- Navigate to the location where you wish to back up the files and tap "Paste here"
Backing Up Media Files Using a Windows PC:
- Connect the SGS5 Mini to the PC via USB
- Swipe the "Status" bar down
- Tap "Connected as a media device"
- Mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
- From the AutoPlay window, click "Open device to view files"
- Locate the desired media files on the smartphone, by accessing the "Phone" and / or "Card" directories
- Copy the desired files, and paste them on the computer's HDD to back them up
Backing Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: the first 2 steps should be skipped if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac computer
- Open the Internet browser on your Mac and navigate to Kies
- Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen prompts in order to install Kies on the computer
- After the software has been installed, connect the Galaxy S5 Mini to the Mac via USB
- On the Mini, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
- Mark the "media device (MPT)" check box
- Open Samsung Kies on the Mac
- Click the "Back up / Restore" tab and then go to the "Backup" tab
- Mark the check box next to "Photo" and "Music", or mark the "Select all items" check box to back up all of your files
- When you're ready, click "Backup"
- After the process is complete, safely disconnect your SGS5 Mini from your Mac
