Backing Up Application Data:
- From the home screen, press "Menu"
- Tap "Settings"
- Go to the "Accounts" tab and then tap "Backup and reset"
- If necessary, tap "Backup account" > "New account" and follow the instructions to log in or create an account
- If required, mark the check boxes next to "Backup my data" and "Backup account"
Contact Backup
Backing Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:
- Tap "contacts" from the home screen
- Press "Menu" and tap "Merge accounts"
- Select to "Merge with Google" or "Merge with Samsung"
- If necessary, sign in with your Google or Samsung account
Backing Up Contacts to the SD Card:
- Make sure the SD card is inserted
- Tap "Contacts" from the home screen
- Press "Menu" and tap "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Press "Menu" and tap "Import / Export"
- Tap "Export to SD card" and make sure you remember the backup file's name
- Tap "OK"
Media File Backup
Backing Up Media Files Using the Smartphone:
- Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
- Open "My Files"
- Tap "All files" > "Device storage"
- Navigate to where the desired files are located. NOTE: pictures taken with the "Camera" app are found in the "DCIM" folder. Other media files can be found in "Downloads", "Notifications" etc.
- Mark the check boxes associated with the desired files or folders
- Tap the "menu" icon located in the upper-right corner
- Tap "Copy" or "Move"
- Navigate to where you wish to back up the files
- Tap "Paste here" or "Move here"
Backing Up Media Files Using a Windows Computer:
- Establish a connection between your SGS4 Value Edition and PC via USB
- Swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "connected as a media device"
- Mark the "Media device" check box
- On the PC, click to "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
- Locate the desired files stored on your phone's internal or external memory
- Copy the files, and paste them in the desired back up location on your computer's HDD
- Once the transfer is done, safely disconnect your smartphone
Backing Up Media Files Using a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is installed on your Mac
- Open the Internet browser on your Mac and visit Kies
- Click "Download for Mac OS" and download the installer
- Follow the on-screen instructions and install Kies on your Mac
- On the smartphone, swipe the "Status" bar down
- Tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device (MTP)"
- Launch Kies on the Mac and click the "Back up / Restore" tab
- Click the "Backup" tab
- Mark the check boxes next to "Music", "Photo" and any other type of media file you wish to backup. Alternatively, tap "Select all items"
- Click "Backup" and wait for the process to complete
- Once done, safely disconnect your smartphone by ejecting it from the Mac's desktop
