Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Press "Menu" while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Access the "My Device" tab
  4. Tap the "Power saving mode" switch to enable the feature
  5. To customize how the mode works, tap "Power saving mode" (the text, not the switch)

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. From any home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Settings" > "My device"
  3. Tap "Display" and select "Brightness"
  4. Drag the brightness slider to the left, and set it to a lower level
  5. Tap "OK" and press "Screen timeout"
  6. Select a lower value, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, HotSpot, Bluetooth and GPS:

NOTE: a smartphone's connectivity features can have a big impact on your phone's battery performance, reason why it's recommended that you disable all connectivity options when they are not in use.

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Tethering & Mobile HotSpot"
  4. Tap the Mobile Hotspot switch to turn the feature OFF
  5. Return to the home screen and swipe the "Status" bar down
  6. Tap the icons associated with "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "GPS" to turn off these features. (NOTE: a grey indicator means the option is disabled)

Changing the Sync Settings for Apps:

  1. Press "Menu" from the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "Accounts" tab
  3. Select the desired account type under "My accounts"
  4. Adjust the sync settings for the account type
  5. To adjust more options, tap your "email address" or "user name" located at the top of the screen

Disabling Background Data:

  1. While on the home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "Connections" tab
  3. Tap "Data usage" and press "Menu"
  4. Mark the "Restrict background data" check box to disable background data

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Applications:

NOTE: even though you might not use certain third party apps, as long as they run services and processes in the background, they can still affect your phone's battery performance. As such, it's recommended that you disable or uninstall apps that you don't use. To do so:

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "More" tab
  3. Tap "Application manager" and swipe to the "Downloaded" screen
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app, or "Uninstall" > "OK" to completely remove it from your phone

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Under the "Connections" tab, press "More networks"
  3. Tap "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  4. Tap "GSM only" to restrict your phone to 2G connectivity
  5. To return to 4G connectivity, tap "LTE / GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)" or "GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)"

Keeping Your Smartphone Updated:

NOTE: Sometimes manufacturers and / or carriers release software updates that can improve your phone's battery performance, by tweaking the power management systems or by simply fixing potential bugs. As such, it's recommended that you keep your smartphone up to date.

  1. Press the "Menu" key while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under the "More" tab, tap "About device"
  4. Tap "Software update" and follow any additional prompts
  5. If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it

NOTE: if no software update is available for download, performing the steps above will have no effect on your phone's battery performance
