Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "System"
  3. Tap "Power saving" > "Power saving mode"
  4. Touch the Power saving mode switch and set it to "ON"
  5. Customize how the power saving mode works by enabling or disabling features such as "Restrict performance", "Block background data" etc.

Enabling Ultra Power Saving Mode:

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Touch "Settings" and scroll to "System"
  3. Tap "Power saving" and touch "Ultra Power saving mode"
  4. Set the "Ultra Power saving mode" switch to "ON"
  5. Set the mode to be enabled in the "Phone", "Messages" and / or "Internet" app
  6. To add more applications that should be affected by Ultra power saving mode, tap "+"

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings"
  3. Under "Quick Settings", tap "Display" > "Brightness"
  4. Tap to clear the "Automatic brightness" check box
  5. Drag the brightness slider to the left and set it to a lower, yet visible level
  6. Tap "OK" and go to "Screen timeout"
  7. Select a lower value, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot and GPS:

  1. While on the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings" and scroll to "Network Connections"
  3. Tap "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot" and set the feature's switch to "OFF"
  4. Return to the home screen and swipe the "Status" bar down
  5. Tap the icons associated with "Wi-Fi", "Location" and "Bluetooth". The icons should be greyed out (indicator lights off)

Changing the Sync Settings of Apps:

  1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and scroll to "User and Backup"
  3. Tap "Accounts" and go to the tab with the same name
  4. Select an account type
  5. Adjust the available sync settings for the selected account type
  6. For more sync settings, tap the "email address" or "user name" at the top of the screen. Clear or mark the check boxes associated with the desired sync settings

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Tap "Settings" and swipe to "Network Connections"
  3. Tap "Data usage" and press "Menu"
  4. Mark the check box next to "Restrict background data"

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: Certain third party applications can have an effect on your phone's battery performance, even when they are not open, assuming that the app runs services in the background. As such, it's recommended that you disable or uninstall applications that you don't use.

  1. Tap "Apps" on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "Applications"
  3. Tap "Application manager" and go to the "Downloaded" tab
  4. Tap the desired app and touch "Disable" to turn off the application
  5. To completely remove the app, tap "Uninstall"

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "Network Connections"
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Mobile networks"
  4. Tap "Network mode" and mark the "GSM only" check box
  5. To return to 4G connectivity, tap "LTE / WCDMA / GSM (Auto connect)" or "WCDMA / GSM (auto connect)"

Keeping Your Smartphone Up to Date:

NOTE: New software updates can bring improvements to your phone's battery performance, reason why it's recommended to keep your device up to date. Keep in mind that following the steps below while no update is available will have no effect on your phone's battery performance. To check for updates on the Galaxy Note 4:

  1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" > "About device"
  3. Tap "Software updates"
  4. Press "Check now" and if an update is available then follow the on-screen prompts to apply it
