Backing Up Apps:
- From the home screen, tap "Apps"
- Go to "Settings"
- Swipe to "User and Backup"
- Tap "Backup and reset", and make sure you are signed in with your Google account. If you need to add an account, tap "Backup account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen steps
- Mark the check boxes associated with "Backup account" and "Backup my data" if necessary
Contact Backup
Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:
- Launch the "Contacts" application
- Tap "Settings" > "Merge accounts"
- Choose either "Samsung account" or "Google"
- Tap "OK" to merge the contacts
Backing Up Contacts on the SD Card:
- Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
- Go to "Settings" and swipe to "Applications"
- Tap "Contacts" > "Contacts to display" > "All contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export" > "Export SD card"
- Tap "OK" and ensure you remember the backup file's name for future use
Backing Up Media Files
Using the SD Card:
- Tap "Apps" from the home screen
- Launch "My Files"
- Swipe to "Local Storage" and tap "Device storage"
- Tap the "Menu" icon located in the top-right corner
- Tap "Select" and locate the files you want to back up. NOTE: Media files are usually found in directories such as "Music", "DCIM", "Downloads" and so on
- Mark the check boxes next to the items you want to back up
- Tap "Menu" and select "Copy"
- Tap "SD card" and navigate to the desired backup location
- Tap "Paste here"
Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
- Establish a USB connection between the Samsung Galaxy A5 and your computer
- Swipe the "Status" bar down and mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box if necessary
- From the AutoPlay window on the computer, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
- Access the "Card" directory and locate the files you wish to back up
- Copy the files and paste them in the desired backup location on the computer
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone's storage from the system tray and safely disconnect your smartphone
Back Up Media Files on a Mac Computer:
NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac
- Open the Internet browser on your Mac and visit Kies
- Click "Download for Mac OS"
- Follow the on-screen steps to install the software on your computer
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy A5 to your PC via USB
- If necessary, swipe the "Notification" bar down and mark the "Media Device (MTP)" check box
- Launch Kies on the Mac
- Access the "Back up / restore" tab and click the "Backup tab"
- Mark the check boxes next to "Music", "Photos" and any other type of media file you wish to back up
- Click "Backup" and once the transfer is done, eject the phone's storage and safely disconnect the device from the Mac computer
