By factory resetting your smartphone you can solve various issues you might encounter when using your device. If it crashes, freezes, performs poorly etc. and all the other options have been exhausted, you might want to apply a master reset and return all of the phones settings to factory values.
WARNING! Master resetting your smartphone will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the internal memory. This includes downloaded content, applications, custom ringtones, pictures, media files, contacts and so on.

Master Reset via Settings:
- Ensure your personal data has been backed up
- Press Menu while viewing the home screen
- Go to Settings and access Accounts
- Under Backup options tap Backup and reset
- Optionally, clear the Automatic restore and Back up my data check boxes
- Tap Factory data reset > Reset device
- In case your phone is protected by a password or PIN, enter the security credentials and tap Continue
- Tap Delete all to confirm and wait for the process to complete
Master Reset via Hardware Keys (Recovery):
NOTE: Use this method of reset in case your phone prevents you from master resetting it using the method above. Keep in mind that regardless of how you will reset your phone, personal data will be lost.
- Turn off your smartphone
- With the device turned off, press and hold the Volume up, Power and Home buttons at the same time
- After the phone vibrates, release the Power button but keep holding the other two
- At the Android System Recovery screen, release all hardware keys
- From the recovery menu press Volume down to navigate to and highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- With Delete all user data highlighted, press Power
- When the Reboot system now message appears, make sure the option is selected and press Power
- Your phone should now reboot with all the settings restored to factory values
