WARNING! When master resetting your phone, you will lose all personal data stored on the phone including downloaded content, ringtones, contacts, media files etc. Furthermore all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: You can visit this thread to learn how you can back up data on the Galaxy A5 before resetting it, and this thread for instructions on how to restore data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Backup and reset
- Optionally, enable or disable Back up my data and Restore
- Tap Factory data reset > Reset device
- In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter the password / PIN to proceed
- Tap Continue > Delete all
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: In case you are unable to reset the phone using the method above, you can try resetting it from within Recovery mode.
- First, turn off the phone
- Press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power at the same time
- At the Samsung logo, release Power
- When the Android logo appears, release Volume Up and Home too
- After a moment you should gain access to the Android system recovery menu
- In this menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to confirm the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Yes delete all user data
- Press Power and wait for the device to reset
- When prompted to Reboot system now, press Power
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: Once you complete the factory reset, its recommended that you check for new OS updates. To do this:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to System
- Tap About device and check if a newer OS version is available. If yes, follow the on-screen steps to download and install it
