Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps doesn’t work as intended, crashes, freezes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you might be able to fix these problems by clearing the application’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, the personal information stored within the application will be lost, including profiles, login and credit card details, high scores, saved games, settings etc. To avoid losing this information, try fixing the app by clearing only its cache.

  1. Open the “Settings” menu
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications”
  3. Go to “Application manager”
  4. Swipe to “Downloaded” or “All”
  5. Select the desired application and tap “Clear cache”
  6. If necessary, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (note the WARNING above)

Reboot in Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes problems and doesn’t allow you to remove it, you should be able to uninstall the application from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled. To access Safe Mode:

  1. First, turn off the phone
  2. Next, press and hold “Power”
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Keep holding “Volume Down” until the phone finishes restarting. It should display a “Safe Mode” label in the lower-left corner of the home screen
  5. Access the phone’s “Settings” menu
  6. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications”
  7. Tap “Application manager”
  8. Go to “Downloaded” and select the app you want to remove
  9. Tap “Uninstall” twice to confirm
  10. To exit safe mode after the app has been removed, press and hold “Power” and tap “Restart”

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone doesn’t work as intended (crashes, freezes etc.) and you’re considering resetting it, you may want to try and clear the device’s cache partition first. Doing so can have similar effects as a factory reset, without losing any of your personal data on the device. To clear the cache:

  1. Turn off the phone if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Volume Up”, “Home” and “Power” at the same time
  3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power”
  4. At the “Android” logo, release the other two hardware keys as well
  5. Wait for access to the Recovery menu (may take up to 60 seconds)
  6. Once in the Android System Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition”
  7. Press “Power” to confirm
  8. Once the cache partition is wiped, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted
  9. Press “Power” to confirm and reboot your device

NOTE: If the issues haven’t been fixed after clearing the cache partition, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can factory reset the phone instead.
