Clear App Cache / Data:
NOTE: If one of your applications doesnt work as intended, crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably etc. you can try fixing these problems by clearing the apps cache / data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, your personal information stored within the app will be deleted. This includes credit card and login details, high scores, profiles, save games etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the application cache.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Applications and tap Application manager
- Access Downloaded or All
- Select the desired application
- Tap Clear cache
- If necessary, tap Clear data > OK (check WARNING above)
Clear the Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and youre considering factory resetting it to solve the issues, you can try clearing the cache partition instead. This can yield similar results as a factory reset without losing any personal data or reverting any settings. To clear the cache partition:
- First, make sure the phone is powered off
- Then, press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up at the same time
- When the Samsung logo appears, release all buttons
- Wait for access to Android System Recovery
- Once in the Recovery menu, press Volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the option
- Press Volume down to highlight Yes and press Power
- Wait for the cache partition to be cleared. Once done, highlight Reboot system now
- Press Power and confirm
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled. To turn off Safe Mode:
- First make sure the phone is turned off
- Next, press and hold Power
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- Once the phone finishes rebooting ,release Volume down. NOTE: A Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower-left corner of the screen
- To remove an app from the phone, first go to Settings
- Tap Applications and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall two times to confirm and remove the application
- To exit Safe Mode, press and hold Power and then tap Restart
