NOTE: You can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data on the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Restore Contacts from an SD Card Backup:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Contacts
- Tap Menu > Settings
- If necessary, tap Contacts to display > All contacts
- Tap Import / Export contacts > Import from SD card
- Tap OK to confirm
Restore Media Files from SD Card:
- Open the Samsung folder
- Launch My Files
- Tap SD card > Menu > Edit
- Navigate to and tick the check boxes associated with the media files you want to restore
- Tap Menu > Move
- Select Internal storage
- Tap More here or, to move the files to a different location tap the folder name or Create folder and press Move here
Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
- Enable File Transfer / Media device when prompted or from the Notification area
- Open the File Explorer on the computer
- Locate and transfer the media file backups on the PC
- Transfer the files on the phone storage, preferably in the Media folder or the directory they originate from
- After the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
- Enable Media device / File Transfer when prompted or from the Notification area
- Launch Kies on the Mac and go to the Back up / restore tab
- Access Restore and tick the boxes associated with Music, Photos and other media file types you want to restore
- Click Restore and follow the on-screen steps to complete the process
- Once done, drag the phones virtual drive from the desktop and drop it in the Trash can to eject the phone storage
- Safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
