Back Up & Restore App Data:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup & reset
- Enable Back up my data to back up Wi-Fi passwords, app data and settings to your account
- Enable Automatic Restore to allow app data and settings to be restored automatically when reinstalling apps or logging on with your backup account
Back Up Contacts on a Samsung or Google Account:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Contacts
- Tap more
- Go to Settings
- To save phone contacts on your Samsung or Google account before the backup, tap move device contacts to
- To proceed, access Accounts in Settings
- Select the desired Samsung or Google account
- Tap more > Sync Now
NOTE: Contacts backed up using this method can be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your Google or Samsung account.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
- Open the Internet browser on the computer
- Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
- Click Samsung Smart Switch for PC and install the app on the computer
- Connect the Samsung phone to your computer via USB
- Enable Media device / File Transfer when prompted or from the Notification area
- Open the File Explorer on the computer
- Navigate to and copy the media files on the phone
- Transfer the files in the desired backup location on the PC storage
- Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
- Follow the first 5 steps in the guide above
- Launch the File Explorer on the computer
- Locate the media file backups on the PC storage
- Copy and paste the files back on the phone storage, preferably in the Media folder(s)
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
Back Up Media Files on a Mac:
NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.
- Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
- Visit http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies
- Click Download for Mac and follow the on-screen prompts to install Kies
- Connect the Samsung phone to your computer via USB
- Enable Media device / File Transfer when prompted or from the Notification area
- Launch Kies on the Mac
- Click the Back up / restore tab in Kies
- Go to the Back up tab and tick the boxes associated with Music, Photos and other media file types you want to back up
- Click Backup
- Once the backup is complete, drag the phones virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the trash can to eject it
- You can safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Follow the first 5 steps above
- Launch Kies on the Mac
- In Kies, click the Back up / restore tab
- Access the Restore tab
- Tick the boxes associated with Photos, Music and other media file types to restore
- Click Restore to start the sync. If necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
- Once the process is done, eject the phone storage by dragging the virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the Trash can
- You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord
