Back Up & Restore App Data:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup & reset
- Enable Back up my data to back up app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and settings to your Google account
- Enable Automatic Restore to allow app data to be restored automatically when reinstalling apps and/or signing in with your Google backup account
Back Up Contacts on a Google or Samsung Account:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Contacts
- Tap More > Settings
- If you wish to include phone contacts to your Samsung or Google account before the backup, tap Move device contacts to
- Next, tap Accounts in Settings and select the desired Google or Samsung account
- Tap More > Sync Now
NOTE: Contacts backed up using this method can be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your Google or Samsung backup account.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
- Launch the Internet browser on the computer
- Visit Samsung Smart Switch?
- Click Samsung Smart Switch for PC and install the app on the computer
- Connect the Samsung device to your computer via USB
- Enable Media device / File Transfer at the prompt or from the Notification area
- Launch the File Explorer on the computer
- Navigate to and copy the media files on the phone
- Paste the files in the desired backup location on the computer
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port
Restore Media files from a Windows PC:
- Follow the same first 5 steps detailed in the guide above
- Then, open the File Explorer on the computer
- Navigate to the media file backups on the computer storage
- Copy and transfer the files back on the phone storage, preferably in the Media directory
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port
Back Up Media Files on a Mac:
NOTE: Skip the first 3 steps below if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac.
- Open the Internet browser on the Mac
- Head down to Samsung Kies
- Click Download for Mac and follow the on-screen steps to install Kies
- Connect the Samsung device to your Mac via USB
- Enable Media device / File Transfer on the phone, at the prompt or from the Notification shade
- Open Kies on the Mac and click the Back up / restore tab
- Access the Back up tab and tick the boxes next to Photos, Music and other media file types you want to back up
- Click Backup
- After the backup is complete, drag the phones virtual drive from the desktop and drop it into the Trash Can to eject it
- You can safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Mac Computer:
- Follow the first 5 steps above
- Open Kies on the Mac and click the Back up / restore tab
- Access the Restore tab and tick the boxes next to Music, Photos and other media file types you want to restore
- Click Restore to begin the sync. Follow any additional on-screen prompts if necessary
- After the process is done, eject the phone storage by dragging the phones virtual drive from the desktop and dropping it into the Trash can
- Safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
