Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: In case one of your apps doesnt work as intended or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache and/or data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including settings, user profiles, high scores, save files, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open the apps drawer
- Open Settings
- Tap Apps and select the desired app
- Go to Storage and tap Clear cache
- If clearing the cache didnt help, tap Clear data (check WARNING above)
Wipe the Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phones cache partition. This can lead to results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the device.
- First ensure the phone is powered off
- Next, press and hold Home and Volume Up at the same time, then press and hold Power too
- At the Android logo, release all buttons and wait up to a minute to gain access to Android System Recovery
- In the Recovery menu, press volume down repeatedly to highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight wipe cache partition
- Press power to confirm
- Use Volume down to highlight Yes and press Power
- Once the cache partition is wiped, highlight Reboot system now and press Power
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the problems, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you can try removing the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are turned Off.
- First turn the phone Off
- Press and hold Power past the model name screen
- At the Samsung logo, release Power and immediately press and hold Volume down instead
- After the phone finishes rebooting, release Volume down. NOTE: a Safe Mode watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
- To remove an app, open Settings and go to Apps
- Then select the desired app and tap Uninstall
- To exit Safe Mode, press and hold Power and tap Restart to confirm
