How-to: Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro: Clear App Cache/Data; Wipe Cache Partition; Reboot to Safe Mode

Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: In case one of your apps doesn’t work as indented or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache and/or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including settings, high scores, user profiles, save files, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

1. Open the apps drawer
2. Launch “Settings”
3. Tap “Apps” and select the desired app
4. Go to “Storage” and tap “Clear cache”
5. If clearing the app’s cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check WARNING above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the cache partition. This can lead to similar results as a factory reset without losing any personal data.

1. First turn the phone off if necessary
2. Press and hold “Volume Up” and “Home” at the same time, then press and hold “Power” as well
3. At the “Android” logo, release all buttons and wait up to a minute to gain access to Android System Recovery
4. In the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
6. Press “Volume down” to highlight “wipe cache partition” and press “Power”
7. Highlight “Yes” and press “Power” again to confirm
8. Once the cache partition is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “power”

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issues, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you can try uninstalling the app from Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.

1. Turn the phone off if necessary
2. Then, press and hold “Power” past the model name screen
3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
4. Keep “Volume down” pressed until the device finishes rebooting. NOTE: after the phone restarts, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be sown in the lower area of the home screen
5. Next open “Settings”
6. Go to “Apps” and select the desired application
7. Tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm
8. To exit Safe Mode, press and hold “Power” and tap “Restart”
