Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps doesn’t work as intended, freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably, or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be lost, including save files, user profiles, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Applications”
  4. Tap “Application manager”
  5. Go to “Downloaded” or “All”
  6. Select the desired app
  7. Tap “Clear cache”
  8. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the phone.

  1. Turn the phone off
  2. Press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” simultaneously
  3. At the “Samsung” screen, release “Power”
  4. At the “Android” screen, release “Volume UP” and “Home” too
  5. After you gain access to the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. After the cache is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

NOTE: In case clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from the phone while in Safe Mode, where all third party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the phone reboots, release “Volume down”. NOTE: a “Safe Mode” label should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first open “Settings”
  6. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Applications”
  7. Tap “Application manager”
  8. Access “Downloaded”
  9. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall”
  10. Once the app has been removed, exit Safe Mode by rebooting your phone as you would do normally
