Back Up App Data:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “Cloud and accounts”
  3. Tap “Backup & restore”
  4. Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data, settings, and Wi-Fi passwords to your backup account
  5. Enable “Automatic restore” to allow app data etc. to be automatically restored when reinstalling apps or signing in with the backup account

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Open the apps drawer and launch “Settings”
  2. Access “Accounts”
  3. Go to “Cloud and accounts”
  4. Select the account you want to use for contact syncing
  5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now”

Back Up Contacts to SD Card:

  1. Open “Contacts”
  2. Tap “Menu”
  3. Access “Settings”
  4. If necessary, tap “Contacts to display” and select “All contacts”
  5. Tap “Import/Export contacts” > “Export to SD card”
  6. Press “OK” to confirm

Back Up Media Files on the Phone Storage:

  1. Launch “My Files”
  2. Tap “Internal storage”
  3. Tap “Menu” > “Share”
  4. Select the contacts you want to back up and tap “Share”
  5. Select the desired contact backup method

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Samsung device to the computer via USB
  2. Enable “File Transfer” / “Media device” at the prompt of from the Notification area
  3. Launch the File Explorer on the computer
  4. Locate the media files on the phone storage
  5. Copy and transfer the files to the desired backup location on the PC
  6. After the transfer completes, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port

Back Up Media Files on an Apple Computer:

NOTE: If Samsung Kies is installed on your Mac, skip the first 3 steps below.

  1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
  2. Visit https://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/app/kies
  3. Click “Download for Mac” and install Kies on the computer
  4. Connect the Samsung phone to the Mac via USB
  5. On the phone, enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” at the prompt or from the Notification area
  6. Open Kies on the Mac and go to “Back up / restore”
  7. Access the “Backup” tab
  8. Tick the boxes next to “Music”, “Photos” and other file types you want to back up
  9. Click “Bakcup” to begin the process
  10. After the process completes, drag the device’s virtual drive from the desktop and drop it over the “Trash can” to eject it
  11. You can now safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
