WARNING! When factory resetting a smartphone, all your data stored on the devices internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files, downloads, contacts and more. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Before you reset the phone you can check this thread for instructions on backing up data on the device, and this thread for restoring data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open Settings
- Go to Backup & reset
- Optionally you can enable Back up my data and Restore
- Tap Factory data reset
- Tap Reset device and if necessary, enter your lock screen password/PIN
- When ready, tap Delete > Reset device
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise its preventing you from applying the reset using the method above, alternatively you can try resetting the phone from the Recovery menu.
- With the phone turned off, press and hold Power, Home and Volume Up simultaneously
- At the Samsung" logo, release Power
- When the Android appears on the screen release Volume UP and Home as well
- Once in Recovery, navigate the menu by pressing Volume down
- Highlight Wipe data / factory reset and press Power
- Press Volume down to highlight yes delete all user data
- Press Power to confirm
Update the OS:
NOTE: Once you factory reset the phone its recommended to check if new updates are available for download.
- Launch Settings
- Go to About device
- Check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process (NOTE: the update will require at least one reboot)
