Clear an App’s Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps doesn’t work as intended or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try to solve these problems by clearing the app’s cache or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app, such as user profiles, high scores, login information etc. will be deleted. To avoid this, clear ONLY The app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Go to “Apps”
  3. Select the desired app and access “Storage”
  4. Tap “Clear cache”
  5. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check Warning above)

Reset the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the cache partition. This can have the same results as a factory reset without losing any personal data on the phone.

  1. Turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Volume Up” and “Home” at the same time
  3. Press and hold “Power” as well
  4. At the Android screen ,release the buttons and wait for access to Recovery
  5. Once in Recovery, press “volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “Wipe data/factory reset”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Highlight “Wipe cache partition” and press “Power”
  8. Highlight “Yes” to confirm and press “Power” again
  9. Once done, ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power” one last time

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes problems and you are unable to remove it, you should be able to uninstall the app from Safe Mode. In this mode, al third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Turn the phone Off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. At the “Samsung” screen, release “Power” and quickly press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the phone finishes rebooting ,release all the buttons. Once on the home screen, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the display
  5. To remove an app, open “Settings” then go to “Apps”
  6. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall”
  7. To exit Safe Mode, reboot the device as you would do normally
