Clear an Apps Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles and login information, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open Settings
- Access Apps
- Select the desired app
- Access Storage > Clear cache
- If clearing the apps cache didnt help, try Clear data (Check the WARNING above)
Wipe the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try clearing the phones cache partition. This can have similar results as a factory reset without the loss of personal data from the phone.
- Make sure the phone is turned off
- Press and hold Volume Up and Home at the same time, then press and release Power
- At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight Wipe data/factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Highlight Wipe cache partition and press Power
- Highlight Yes and press Power again to confirm
- Once done, ensure Reboot system now is highlighted and press Power one last time
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes problems and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app in Safe Mode. In this mode, all third-party apps are disabled by default.
- If necessary, turn the phone Off
- Press and hold Power
- At the Samsung screen, release Power and quickly press and hold Volume down instead
- After the device finishes rebooting, release the keys. Note that a Safe Mode label should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
- To remove an app, first go to Settings
- Then go to Apps and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall
- Once done, exit Safe Mode by rebooting your phone as you would do normally
