Clear an App’s Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles and login information, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Access “Apps”
  3. Select the desired app
  4. Access “Storage” > “Clear cache”
  5. If clearing the app’s cache didn’t help, try “Clear data” (Check the WARNING above)

Wipe the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have similar results as a factory reset without the loss of personal data from the phone.

  1. Make sure the phone is turned off
  2. Press and hold “Volume Up” and “Home” at the same time, then press and release “Power”
  3. At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
  4. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “Wipe data/factory reset”
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. Highlight “Wipe cache partition” and press “Power”
  7. Highlight “Yes” and press “Power” again to confirm
  8. Once done, ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power” one last time

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device.

  1. If necessary, turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. At the Samsung screen, release “Power” and quickly press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. After the device finishes rebooting, release the keys. Note that a “Safe Mode” label should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first go to “Settings”
  6. Then go to “Apps” and select the desired app
  7. Tap “Uninstall”
  8. Once done, exit Safe Mode by rebooting your phone as you would do normally
