Clear an App’s Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably, or otherwise doesn’t work as intended you can try solving these issues by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles, save files, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Go to “Apps” and select the desired app
  3. Access “Storage”
  4. Tap “Clear cache”
  5. If clearing the app cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check WARNING above)

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can clearing the phone’s cache partition instead. This can have similar results as a factory reset without losing any personal data on the phone storage.

  1. Ensure the phone is powered Off
  2. Press and hold “Volume Up” and “Home” at the same time, then press and release “Power”
  3. At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
  4. Once in Recovery, navigate the menu by pressing “Volume down” and highlight “Wipe data/factory reset”
  5. Press “Power”
  6. Highlight “Wipe cache partition” and press “Power’
  7. Next, highlight “Yes” and press “Power” again to confirm
  8. Ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power”

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the device instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party app causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Turn the phone Off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. When prompted with the “Samsung” screen, release “Power” and quickly press and hold “Volume down” instead
  4. Once the phone finishes rebooting, release the buttons. Note that a “Safe Mode” watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To uninstall an app, first open “Settings”
  6. Go to “Apps”
  7. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall”
  8. After the process completes, exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device as you would do normally
