WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all your personal data on the phone will be deleted, including contacts, media files, downloaded content, apps etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values, but data located on the SIM and SD cards wont be affected
NOTE: Before your reset the phone you can check this thread for a guide on backing up data on the phone, and this thread for instructions on restoring data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open Settings
- Access Personal
- Ta Backup and reset
- Optionally, enable or disable Back up my data and Restore
- Tap Factory data reset > Reset device
- If your device is lock-screen protected, enter your password/PIN and tap Continue
- When ready, tap Delete all > Reset device
Factory Reset via Android Recovery:
NOTE: If your device crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it using the method above, you can try and reset the phone from the Recovery menu which can be accessed as follows:
- Turn the phone off
- Press and hold Home Power and Volume Up at the same time
- At the Samsung log, release Power
- At the Android screen, release the other buttons
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu, until you highlight Wipe data/factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Highlight Yes delete all user data and press Power again to confirm
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After you reset the phone its recommended to check if new updates are available for download.
- Open Settings and scroll to About device
- Go to the software section and check if new OS updates are available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update
