Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, or doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all of your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including custom settings, login information, save files, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Go to “Apps”
  3. Select the desired app and tap “Storage”
  4. Tap “Clear cache” > “OK”
  5. If clearing the app cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check the WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the phone.

  1. Turn the phone Off
  2. Press and hold “Volume down” “Power” and “Home” at the same time
  3. At the Android screen, release the keys and wait for access to Android Recovery
  4. Press “Volume down” to navigate the menu
  5. Highlight “Wipe cache partition” and press “Power” to select the option
  6. Then highlight “Yes” and press “Power” again
  7. Once the phone is reset, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” one last time

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party apps causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Ensure the phone is powered off
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. At the Samsung logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down”
  4. Once the phone finishes rebooting ,release the volume key. A “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, go to “Settings”
  6. Tap “Apps” and select the desired application
  7. Tap “Uninstall” two times to confirm
  8. Once completed, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your phone normally
