I'm ususally pretty good with techie stuff, but I guess the phone genre is a bit out of my area of expertise. Before I get scolded for not searching, let me say I've read every search result here that is related to my problem - my new phone (of course). While there's good info there, I'm still stuck.

If it's not too much trouble, I'd like to ask for help from the beginning.

I bought an sch-a930. All I'm really trying to do is put some custom ringtones on it from my pc. Here's what I have so far:

    phone
    usb cable (oem)
    pclink software from Samsung

    My two main problems are:

    1) creating the right size/type file that is suitable for a ringtone, and
    2) moving the file to my phone.

Problem #1 is largely due to the fact that as bad as I am at manipulating phones, I'm worse at manipulating audio. I've downloaded about a half a dozen audio editing programs and managed to get one to save a clip of an mp3. I renamed the extension to .mid, no problem. Since I can't get my phone to talk to my pc (or vice-verse), I tried uploading the file to vzwpix.com, but I received an error message telling me the file was in 44k format instead of 22k. Unfortunately the software I was using wouldn't let me change that setting, so I was still stuck.

So my usb cable came in the mail today and I thought, cool I'll just move the files using the cable. When I plugged the usb cable into the phone, then the pc, the pc instantly deteced my phone. COOL!. Then it tried to search for usb drivers and failed. NOT COOL!. I have searched the internet for hours for this driver and can not find it for the life of me. It seems that without it, I can not use the pclink software that Samsung has supplied.

This is where I'm stuck. Sorry this was so long, but I figure TMI is better than NEI.

Please help if you think I'm helpable.

I don't use USB cable, I have a 1GB microSD card, so I just transfer all the files to the memory card.

Hey it works, and you might as well get a memory card if you want to store media on your phone.

Also I use Creative WaveStudio that came with my Audigy 2 ZS card to edit sound files, Nero 7 or Nero 6 has a pretty decent editor too that you should look into.

I have dBPowerAMP Music converter which is heavenly. Also I use Pure Voice converter. When I convert the file through dbpower, I drag the file into pure voice and like magic another file pops out! hope that helps a little
