    Hello,

I am thinking about getting a Samsung Omnia. I want it mostly because it is a touch screen smart phone. I don't need the internet access, so I was wondering if it is possible to not have to pay for a data plan?

Thanks for all who can help.

No, the data plan is required for the phone to be active on the Verizon Wireless network.

The data plan starts at $29.99 per month and they won't activate your phone [the Omnia] without this plan. It became mandatory for all PDA/Smartphones in mid November.

I have a moto Q right now, so does that mean in november I will have to get a data plan? Because right now I don't have one and I can't afford $30 a month for online access on my phone, and i need the capabilities of a calendar that a smart phone provides.

No, your Motorola Q will not be effected.

I should have been more accurate:

All new devices launched on or after November 14, 2008 will be required to get the mandatory data plan. The Omnia was launched right after that date.

By decent, I'm not sure what you mean.

I like the calendar on the Voyager, but it can't compare to the Omnia's.

I guess I would like to have a phone that is fairly thin, like the Q9M, and is easy to enter new dates on teh calendar on the phone, so probably need a qwerty key board, and it would be plus if it could connect to outlook, but not necessary if it is really easy to enter on the phone.

thanks for all your help btw.

The enV2 may meet your needs, but it isn't as "smart" as a smartphone...or even as smart as the Voyager.

I at one time wanted to get this phone also. After a short hands on period, I decided against it.

The touch screen is terrible. I had to touch multiple times to get the icon's to come up. The drag system on it is just as bad...I mean really bad. After about 25 minutes, I gave up. I can honestly say, it could not bring up one application on the first touch.

But, as previously mentioned, you have to pay for the data plan. All smart phones and blackberry's require this now.
