There is a known bug that heppend when you use the soft qwerty keyboard. the letter "I" followed by a space, which unfortunately is a very common combination causes the phone to freeze and reboot.

The eay work around for this is to simply use the built in qwerty as opposed to the soft qwerty. Honestly I don't know why anyone would use the soft keaybpard on a qwerty slider anyway but who am I to tell you how to use your phone.

I've had my Impression for a couple of months now and I am in love with it.

I got my Impression a little over a month ago and I'm very frustrated with the texting lag.. has anyone purchased this phone lately and not had this problem? You won't notice it unless you're a really fast texter.. I'm thinking about calling AT&T to get a replacement one.. but I'm not going to bother unless I think the problem has been fixed. I'm also going to call Samsung to report the problem and see what they say. If anyone can inform me, I'd appreciate it.

How do you get the new software? I don't know if my phone is up-to-date with this even though I purchased it not too long ago.

Yeah, sometimes it does kinda lag when you text lag, so I just got a little used to slowing down a little so it doesn't start falling behind. Usually doesn't happen unless you repeat a letter with another letter inside, like "A-H-A"

I couldn't stand it. I got a replacement phone, then another replacement phone, and they both still had the same issues so I went up the the AT&T store today and by this time tomorrow I'll have a Samsung Jack lol. It's unfortunate because I loved that phone other than the fact that it had a bad texting lag. Hopefully I'll like the Jack better so I won't regret getting rid of this one.

    Re: Samsung Impression Freezes

This phone is literally a piece of ****. It freezes when you use sliding keyboard on T9. It lags from time to time when texting while using the keyboard. The phone was perfect when I first bought it. Since it has gone down hill. I bought this phone in July. 5 months later in December, my screen blew out. when i open the keyboard the phone functions perfectly but when its closed the screen gives no picture but the phone responds to touch. The phone has a 1 year warranty so I took it to AT&T and they told me I couldn't exchange my phone because the water damage indicator was pink. My phone has never been damaged by water and all I wanted was a replacement or a refund. after arguing with the rude people at AT&T for an hour I left. I talked to everyone from customer services reps to high up supervisors. So you can understand why I was upset. $350 + tax down the drain and no one at AT&T gave a crap even though the phone still functioned perfectly. So next I called Samsung and what do you know.....they are replacing my phone. Something that AT&T couldn't do. So advice to all, buy this phone at your own discretion. And do not, I repeat do not touch the water damage indicator (little white sticker next to the SIM card slot). Anything can cause it to change color. The people at AT&T told me on the phone that anything as simple as a sweat droplet can cause the color change. If the sticker is anything other than white, your warranty is voided through AT&T. Luckily Samsung doesn't care about the water damage indicator, they do their own test to figure out what is wrong with the phone. so if you are having problems please, please call SAMSUNG ASAP!!!!!!! They will take better care of you then the people at AT&T who are more concerned about making money then serving their customers. Hope I was able to help anyone with similar problems. Thumbs up Samsung for the excellent customer service.

hey mtobias103, i wanted to thank you for all of that information that you have just supplied me with, but would like to ask you if you know whether or not Samsung checks if you bought your phone directly from ATT or second-hand, and if they know you bought it second-hand, will they still help you?

    Re: Samsung Impression Freezes

No problem. I bought my phone directly from AT&T but when I called Samsung they didn't ask for much other than the numbers under the battery and what was wrong with the device. They may check to see when it was bought and activated to make sure its under warranty. But this phone is a recently new item and it has a 1 year warranty so you should be ok. I can't guarantee that they will help you because you bought the phone through someone who wasn't a certified dealer. But give Samsung a call and see what you can do. They are pretty friendly in terms of their customer service so hopefully they can help you out. Hope this reply helped you out.

BTW this phone isn't a complete POS (piece of ****). At the time I wrote my original post I was pretty angered because AT&T wasted an hour of my time. But one of college classmates recently got his replaced and the newer models function a lot better then the first models. Supposedly there is a new OS (operating system) on the phone, I can't confirm that but I guess its true since my classmate had his replaced a month or two ago and it hasn't had any problems.

again hope my info was useful. happy holidays to everyone

    Re: Samsung Impression Freezes

Well i know the man i talked to from Samsung told me they do their own test on the phone when they receive it at their plant in texas to determine whats wrong and if the the error of the device falls under warranty. If your firmware is bricked than you may be out of luck because that's something that doesn't fall under coverage. You can still try and call Samsung but its going to be a long shot unless you can debrick it

    Re: Samsung Impression Freezes

Today is Monday, APRIL 12, 2010...

    Day 3 with this phone.

All I can say is that I can confirm everything thus far.

    Major issue:
Keyboard input lag. This thing misses every other three characters. I've had my three other friends try this and only 1 (slow texter) didn't have the issue. This is hardware issue as far as I can tell because the on screen touch input works fast and flawless....or does it...
The OSKB locks and crashes the UCD13 ("new fix" OS)
(Reason I'm returning ignoring the other serious issues with the firmware)

    Other more major glitches
    The freezing overall....
    The text lag.
T9 crashes 50% of the time.
Unable to send (or sending stuck for hours after about 25 texts)
    Random restarts.
    Screen locks.
    Screen overlays.
    Unresponsive touch input.
    And overall system failure.
    Widget lock (see above posts)

    Minor glitches:

Sound, it randomly plays music or the wrong ringtones.

Picture movement: It refuses to move any pictures to or from my MicroSD (The Xenon as terrible as it was had no issue and neither did my friends mythic..It's not write protected)
SIM card refuses to Let me make favorites.

    Follow me on this...
    SEND -> RECENT -> NAME -> SEND
    Fine.
SEND -> *DRAFTS* -> SAVED TO DRAFTS -> CLOSES
GRRRRRR everytime because the button is right on top of send -_-

Netsurfing (well with everyone phone) sucks and crashes.
Touch feedback (screen buzz) I've now had this happen a good three or four times where it buzzes for no reason and when i went (yet again) to turn off the buz it was already set to ZERO BUZZ or buzz level....Hard restart solve but such a PITA....

Overall the issues with this piece of crap (windows vista?) severally outweigh any "pros" it has...Such as...brace for epic....
"Accelerometer, dual speakers for 3D sound; day and evening themes change at preset times; advanced speech recognition"
    OH MY GOD.......... EPIC.

    Now the Pros:

    Looks cool (works like crap)
Online ability (So does every phone)
Good call quality (every phone if I'm paying more then $100 damn well better be)
Camera (Freezes and whoopy doo it's 2010 for god sake movies are in 3D ...OLD NEWS)
MicroSD (Doesn't fit right and doesn't work)
Easy to navigate (You mean easy to freeze)
    Touch screen (big deal...crashes anyway)
A lock button to prevent 'butt dials' (It's in such an awkward spot and fails)
Battery Time..... (This is honestly the one thing that works on this phone.)
    GPS (Fails)
Music Player (crap and big deal I have an ipod so do you)
XM radio (WHOA so does every phone that WORKS)
I could go on but I'm sure you are all tired of listening to me complain.
I can assure the LG Xenon is better and honestly I wanted to break that phone too (See my review)

Dear Samsung and At&t for not testing products. Please go die in a fire. Thank you

    Overall rating:
    4 / 10
    DO NOT GET THIS PHONE.
