Samsung Galaxy Note II help

Hello, I'm new to smartphones, I picked up a samsung galaxy Note II from a garage sale and it has a at&t sim card in it. How do I go about unlocking it and how do I get service after unlocking it, do I ask for a sim card that fits the phone? I tried following a tutorial that claimed it can unlock but I go stuck when they said I had to downgrade in order for it to work, I don't know how to do that. Any guidance is appreciated .

Once you have it unlocked all you have to do is get a sim card for the service you want to use it on. You may also need to change the APN settings to get data and mms to work, which many prepaid providers usually provide instructions to do.
