I used to make ring tones for my LG verizon phone with Bit Pim Using Gold wave and CD N Go to make and compress the data. Does anyone know how to do this with Sanyo's MM-8300 (sprint phone)? If so what program's do I need to do this?

Well, lets turn this into a more general conversation but with that specific goal in mind.
I too, have the Sanyo MM-8300, and I too want to make and/or find ringtones for it.

We need to find out what kind of music file works on the phone.
I'll do some searching and return with that answer ASAP.

    Using Bitpim 0.8.06.
as stated in the Bitpim help section for Sanyo phones: "BitPim can transfer ringers and images to all supported Sanyo phones. Only PNG and MIDI files may be sent to the phones. QCP and other format ringers can not be transferred to the phone. This is a limitation of the phone, not BitPim."

That's all I have for now,
Other file types I'm running into are:
    m4a, Qcp, among others.
Ringerpost.com has been a good site for getting ringers, I just hope they are the right kind of files.
Once we find all the file types that work on the MM-8300, we'll then see what programs can make/edit them.

One thing I found odd was the last line in this bit of text from the help menu in bitpim:
"The phonebook and calendar are supported on the SCP-4900, RL-4920, SCP-5300, SCP-5400 (RL2500), SCP-5500 (VM4500), SCP-7200 (RL2000), SCP-7300 (RL7300), MM-7400, SCP-8100 (Sprint and Bell Mobility versions), PM-8200 and MM-8300. The filesystem on all of these phones, except for the MM-8300 is supported."
So that doesn't help our cause any.

with my LG VX6000 I used to just go to the filesystem and copy the pics from the camera to my computer it was so easy.

Hang in there soon we will be mastering the 8300.
    More info tomorrow....

    My Experience

Ok I also have a Sanyo MM8300 but I make my ringtones. I use midi, qcp or mp4/aac ringer formats. I make my own ringers in qcp by using Nero Wave Editor (QCP or AAC) or any Wave Editor and Qualcomm Pure Voice (QCP). Peace

    Another Tip

Ok once u have the qcp ringtone done just head over to www.funformobile.com there you are able to upload this ringer to the website for free and that will then send it to your cel as a text message in order for you to download it. You must have PCS VISION for this work.

Remember this: QCP sounds lower in quality and volume than an AAC/MP4 rintone. peace

I have a lot of tones from ringerpost.com but as usual there's always a problem.
Using Bitpim can be a nightmare, It recognises my phone, it even reads the tones i have on the phone but sending tones through the pc sync option has been useless. The phone shows that it is in PC SYNC mode and everything acts like it is working but, no results.

As for turning one type of file into other types I'm not there yet especially when there are just so many others doing it for us, such as on ringerpost.com

Well, it looks like if you send a midi file less than 15kb through the data cable, it works. So it looks like I'm now going to be looking for the right program too since most, if not all, the files from ringerpost.com are way too big.

well i can give you a very good solution if you want to make a ringer from any mp3 provided you have a pcs vision plan and get it to your mm-8300 and playing successfully...
    1. download the wavepad player here: WavePad
    2. then download the mp3 plugin here:
    MP3 Plugin
    3. download the GCD Creator here:
    GCD Creator installation file
    4. unzip the gcdcreator file and install it
    5. then go to fun for mobile editing walkthrough and follow ONLY steps 1-7 NOT 8 (i've found their converter to be problematic)
    6. by now you should have an edited version of your mp3 saved as a .wav file
    7. open GCD Creator and click the WAV to QCP button on the left side, then click the lil arrow next to the file destination window and find your wav file and convert away
    8. go to FunForMobile , create an account. once your account is created, click here: Uploader
    9. click the browse button, find your file, and click "send to phone"
thats it, you have an awesome sounding ringtone for your mm-8300 that is a suprisingly small file for the quality and length of the song. it sounds complicated... but it takes me like 5 minutes at most. all the programs and sites in this how-to are free aren't gonna give you spam or viruses... i've checked them thouroughly. and i know i almost oversimplified it... but it works, trust me. any questions email me at [email protected]

Generally, how much does it cost to send it to your phone, is that part of a particular plan, because this cable transfer is rediculous at best, you're only able to transfer midi (less than 20kb) and png files (less than 100kb), thats just stupid, dumb, and unbelievable!

well it's part of the vision plan (which is basically the internet on your sprint phone). the vision plan is like $20 or $30 a month i think... but i think its 2cents per kb if you don't have vision... so unless you have a vision plan it's kind of expensive. but the vision plan is well worth it for more than just ringtones... the vision plan is the internet... so i recomend it

    Thanks for the info.
    Should work for most people.
As for me, Sprint is too expensive as it is.
    I'll keep searching.......................
Maybe there's another program better than Bitpim.
