i called sony about my sony ericsson s710. it seems cingular gave me the wrong code. but more surprising.. sony rep said that i shouldn't enter the code too much as after too many attempts, the phone locks and can NEVER be unlocked again.

    is this true?

Depends on the phone, but entering a code too many times can make it so the phone can never be unlocked using a subsidy code.

Some phones (not sure if this was older or newer), could be turned into bricks, entering the wrong code too many times. But again I don't know the manufactor/brand of those phones, just going by what I have read over the years.

Cingular always says, that if the code they give you does not work on the phone, to call them back so they can walk you through the process.
