Does anyone know how to get windows media player work work right with the w300i. WMP recognizes my phone as a drive and will transfer/sync songs to it but then the walkman function never sees the songs. Is anyone using WMP without this hitch?

What are you talking about? The W300i doesn't have WMP in the first place. How can it support it? Windows Media Player on your computer recognizes the W300i as a storage device, that's why WMP plays the music files. Just like an external hard drive, junk drive, whatever.

Make a playlist after you download your songs.....

I'm not talking about using WMP to play the songs. I have all my mp3 and wma files organized in the windows media player library on my computer and i want to drag and drop songs onto a sync list and sync them to my w300i like any other mp3 player instead of using the crappy software included when i bought my phone.

Right now, windows media player recoginzes my phone as a drive and will send songs to it without a hitch. the problem comes when i try to find the songs in the walkman. they dont show up (at all) as choices of songs to play. However, they do show up under the file manager, but i still can't play them from there.

anyone know how to sync using WMP so that the files show up and are playable or if this is even possible?

You have to add the new music file(s) yourself by accessing the phones player; once you have that open view the 'walkman' options, listed beneath will be artist, tracks, etc. There you can add an mp3, or all mp3's into a playlist. Each time you transfer new mp3's or other audio/video files you will have to renew(refresh) your playlist in order to view, listen, and manage.
Oh and make sure you are putting files in the correct folder when transferring. There are multiple file folders, which I'm sure you're aware of between the two phone cards, the wrong folder could result in malfunction of processing. There is no doubt about it, that Sony Ericssons W300i is very glitchy, and poorly constructed.
