Good Day,
I'm still using a Motorola m3788e which I got with an Orange 'Just
Talk' account (mid 1990s?). I am quite happy with the pay-as-you-go
type of account, because of its simplicity and because it avoids a lot
of potential complications.
However, I'd like to have a phone with a qwerty keybord for sending
texts more easily. Can anyone suggest a low-cost one? Would I need to
change service provider?
Many thanks,
Adrian C

This Windows Mobile powered smartphone
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=VOQ is available SIM free (so that
you can use your existing SIM card) for just £95. I don't know anything
about it though. It's got a flip-open qwerty keyboard (click on the picture
to see it). That's the only low cost phone with a qwerty keyboard i know
about. Of course, i you were willing to take a 12 or 18 months contract,
you could get a much nicer and up-to-date phone (a nokia communicator or
palm treo for instance) for free or almost nothing but that would obviously
cost you a lot at the end.

The decent Nokia 6822 is still available, specs here:
www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,72267,00.html
You can buy it SIM free for £160 from eXpansys here:
www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=120599
or on an O2 contract which will cost a total of £80 after cashback:

There aren't any. Not that I can think of anyway.

It's an excellent phone, IMHO.
I bought one when they were 'deal of the day' - and have used it lots
over a GPRS connection on Microsoft Messenger.
There's nothing outdated about it, really, it's just a bit ugly and lack
of bluetooth is a PITA, but for the money, you can't do any better.
