    Hi all,

    I've just got back from Japan and had a very frustrating time with my
    Vodafone PAYG handset.

    I bought the handset back in October it was a Samsung Z140V and I
    registered it with a Voda 07909 number and registered my details,
    registered a debit card and activated Stop the Clock and Vodaphone
    Passport.

    On December 1st I ported in a number from a disconnected Orange
    contract. Now as with all networks I thought the transfer process was
    automatic and that you didn't need to register the sim card.

    On December 27th I flew out to Japan and this is where the fun started.

    - I was able to send and receive text messages
    - I was able to receive calls
    - I was NOT able to make calls (I had a Vodaphone Japan barred message)

    I reported the issue twice to Vodaphone customer services whilst I was
    over there. First time they said my handset wasn't registering on the
    network and do the whole take the sim card out for 30 minutes business.

    The second time a Vodaphone tubby actually called my handset and was
    able to talk to him and said he'd report the fault and that I'd get some
    contact about the fault. This didn't happen.

    During the rest of my time I was unable to make calls at all whilst I
    was over there but still continued to receive calls and text messages.

    Anyhow fast forward to today and I've just got off the phone after an
    hour on the phone with another Vodaphone tubby.

    The conclusion was the following...

    1) They tried to blame it on coverage - bah humbug - I had full 5 bars
    coverage whilst I was there and was able to receive calls and text
    messages I was barred from making calls only.
    2) The tried to blame it on handset barring - I was able to make calls
    from Copenhagen so umm duh
    3) It would now appear that when my number was ported in all of my
    account details were "lost" and my sim became deregistered. At the time
    of me porting the number I was not advised that I had to reregister so
    umm how come vodaphone is the only network that is able to port a number
    and not able to retain account details ????. So in fact I flew out with
    a deregistered sim and no passport. I was NOT told I had to registered
    my sim >_>;;;
    4) I was told I would not be compensated for money wasted on telephone
    cards despite the fact that as far as I was concerned I was flying out
    with a voda sim with passport activated.
    5) They can't guarentee service overseas - ummmm they can't guarentee
    service on a sister network where I had a compatible phone and 5 bars
    signal strength? o.O

    So basically I got given £10 for being "misadvised" and for being unable
    to make calls over there. For all those vodaphone experts do I have any
    further course for recourse here or not?.

    Of course they can't guarantee it. They have very little if any control
    of what goes on at other networks.
