Tried searching for this info. but no luck. My Orange 6310i keeps asking me
for my "security" code if I want to clear my gprs data counters, voice
timers and so on. I keep getting code error and cannot remember if I ever
changed this or not. I remember asking someone in an Orange shop about this
and they just said the phone was broken. Is there any way of finding out
what this code is and fixing it?

Yes, it is.
If you've changed it and forgotten it the only wayh to reset it is via a
nokia service centre, or somebody who has the right equipment.

The algorithm for generating a master unlock code based on IMEI# has been
published by Dejan. It runs on the Symbian OS, but somewhere I remember
someone porting it to a web page in which you enter the IMEI# and it spits
out the master unlock code. You then go to the phone's security menu,
and change the unlock code using the master code so generated. I'm sure a
Google search will turn it up.

12345 is the default.

Yep, that's it. The owner of this site appears to have ported Dejan's
mcode program. I have used this on two different phones which were
=supposed= to have the factory security code of 12345, but didn't.

Thanks for your help so far, folks. OK, I have now got my security
mastercode and found the security
settings menu. But can you please explain (or tell me where I can this -
it's not explained on any website which I have looked at) exactly what i do,
step by step... to a newbie at this game. I don't want to make a mistake and
screw up an otherwise perfectly good phone !

By the way, I should mention that I went looking for this after finding,
through successive Nokia phones that had come my way, usually new, that
NONE of them had the so-called "Default" security code of 12345. I am
still baffled by this, and wonder what it is in common - the fact that
they were SIM unlocked perhaps - that made this true.
It isn't even restricted to GSM phones. I'm in the US, and my wife once
bought a brand new 3589i (a CDMA phone) from a Verizon company store.
Within minutes we were back at the service department as "12345" did not
work. They ended up resetting it for us using software and a data cable.
