I'm starting to get really pished off with marketing calls from
companies who claim to be "calling on behalf of orange". Do Orange
actually subcontract or are these companies all just chancers?
I'm signed up to the telephone preference service, and have asked
Orange not to pass on my details. Is there anything more i can do?
The most recent one was offering a 'loyalty bonus' which i presume is
actually a contract extension.

I had someone call me up from Orange. Was going to offer me an N70 for
being such a good customer. But I said, no, I have a 6680 which is
basically the same beast in a different skin... gimme an N80 or N92.
They said they don't have those yet, so offered six months at half price.
Fair enough I thought.
Then I realised I didn't actually remember if they said they were really
from Orange.
Must be genuine though?

It would appear that these are not working on behalf of Orange but on
the other hand Orange do stand to gain if these people get you to extend
your contract even if you don't realise that is what is actually
happening.

You presume correctly, you get nothing without an extension to the
contract if you accept their offer.

Chancers.

Not really.

Only Orange Direct (I.e. Customer Services, Telesales and Orange Retail
shops) could have offered 6-month at half price, so that particular call
was genuinely from Orange.

Had people claiming to be working on behalf of O2 saying they knew my
contract was about to expire, would I like a new phone? I told them to piss
off as I'd just renewed 2 months ago.

It's quite funny though. I had one guy ring up and ask how many minutes
I get from Orange. 500, I said. And how many texts? 500. And how much
does that cost you? £25.
He seemed quite deflated, said 'That *is* a good deal'. To which I
replied 'yep' and he hung up.
One company had the cheek to ask for my new address details and seemed
quite taken aback when I suggested that I didn't want to give them out
to random sales companies.

I've had 3rd party companies offering me second lines with t-mobile, I
told them I couldn't afford it due to buying a new car, and he said
enjoy your car and that was that
