This thing shoots first and asks questions later and I don't think I can
    take it any more.

As far as I can tell I can't but how do I turn it down?

    Shoots what first?

You can't turn the alarm volume down. I'm guessing that's because it's an
    alarm though.

Yep, that crossed my mind too.

However, the alarm rings at a greater volume than anything else on the
phone. I can play the alarm melody at full volume through the mp3 player
and it's not even close to how load the alarm makes it. And there is a
lot of distortion since the speaker is being overloaded.

Mine was loud on my old k750i, and it eventually, after about 6 months,
ended up sounding distorted. I know what you mean, but there's nothing quite
like waking up to some low-quality abismal alarm tune, makes a great start
    to the day.

Just used google there; someone suggested using 'sound forge' on the PC to
reduce the volume of the actual file, so that the handset only plays it at
    maximum.

So i guess you could have 2 ringtones, copy the old one, adjust the
sound-level in sound forge, and have a loud one, for those times when you
    want to wake up irritated.

Funnily enough Whiffin mentioned that in passing a few weeks back. Might
have to give it a try then.

    Thanks for your help.
