    I've recently (a month ago) got a new Nokia 5500 on orange, and it has an
    extremely iritating fault.

    Specifically, the answerphone symbol stays on continuously, and "new voice
    message on line 1" pops up every time I turn the phone on.

    Calling the answerphone reveals that there are no messages.

    Orange say that it is a known problem, and that nothing can be done.

    They state that as it is more than 14 days old, the 14 day return policy
    doesn't apply, and claim that SOGA doesn't apply because the phone works.
    The fact that I can't rely on the on-screen info for details of whether I
    have an answerphone message or not is, according to the droid, irrelevant.

    Suggestions (other than dropping a bomb on Aztec West)?

    Already been there, and that didn't fix it.

    Eventually got rid of it!

    The trick apparently is to put the SIM into a non-nokia handset, leave
    yourself a VM message, and delete it.

    This clears the symbol
