Is quicktime the only way to play these files? and if so, how do I alter
it, I am constantly getting a message saying it has an annotation in an
encoding not supported by this o/s.

the annotation text in this particular in this particular recording is not
included in the movie. I click ok, and the file plays, with no detail taken
out, video is there and so is audio, it is just a bit annoying.

my phone is a sony ericcson K800i

    thanks

A wild guess, but try VLC (http://www.videolan.org) - it plays just
about any format imaginable, and a no-install required version is
    available from http://www.portableapps.com

I think VLC Media Player should work, but mine only plays the video,
    with no sound.

RealPlayer plays them fine but you need to download the 3GP plugin for
    it.
