Nokia E65 - battery life

The BL-5F battery in my one month old Nokia E65 now discharges very quickly,
it lasts less than a day even with the phone left in standby (and out of
reach of signal.)

Is there anything that might cause this?

WLAN scanning is set to off though this does not appear to stop the phone
finding a wireless network.

All I can suggest is make everything is turned off that can be (bluetooth
etc.). If the phone still finds wireless networks then it sounds like WLAN
is still on somehow, maybe try and find a way of temporarily disabling it?
Also, if it is out of reach of a signal, that will drain the battery quite
quickly as the phone will be trying to transmit/receive at full power in an
attempt to find a connection...

If it's out of reach of a signal it will be using it's full power to try and
get a signal, hence the battery drain.

I shall have to try again when I am in range of a transmitter! That's the
problem with Virgin, it uses the T-Mobile network which has poor coverage.
I am only an occasional user, and the Virgin tariff suits me very well, it
is a pity that none of the other networks offer something comparable!

Orange offer pretty good payg deals- if you get a sim and call them to
request a pac code/leave they will offer you cheaper calls/texts. Ones
I remember are:

12p/min calls to other networks at any time of the day (for 6 months)
5p/min calls to other orange phones and landlines (for life)
3p texts (for 6 months)
send one text get one free (for life)
Unlimited evening and weekend calls to orange after you've topped up
£10 or more in a 1 month period

You can have as many of these as you like too. Some are only valid for
6 months though but, after which, you can call to 'leave' again and
they can re-apply it.

If it's out of reach of a signal, it will scan for a base to log on to,
then give up, so the battery will last ages.

If it's /nearly/ out of reach of a signal, and particularly if it is
between two cells and logs onto them in turn, that will use the battery
life.

That is interesting thanks, there is network coverage at my house! Say you
negotiated 5p/min for other orange phones and landlines, how do you know
whether they actually apply this rate? Can you see the actual charges -
maybe online?

Yeah, a knackered battery.

Take it to a nokia service centre and ask them to test the battery. It's
covered by a six month warranty.
